Last night I hopped over to the Citadel with my partner and a friend to attend EduKink’s Beginner’s Dungeon class. Great class. In a lot of ways I wish it had been one of the first classes I attended, simply because the overview was really well done and it was a great introduction into everything kink. We talked about scene etiquette, common terminology, how to build a good (and bad) reputation, what you should know about the logistics of a play party, etc. It was highly informative, and it was a great chance for us newbies to ask questions without looking like complete idiots.
We also had a comprehensive tour of the dungeon (both levels) which was superb, because we’re never allowed to go down to the basement level except during play parties. All of the different equipment was described and we got to walk around the whole place. There is so much you can do down there. It’s too bad I’m broke, because I feel like renting the place out for some amateur photography would be a dream come true.
All in all, a great night. I think my friend learned a lot from coming with us, I got to see some folks I met recently at another event, and I learned that you can volunteer your time at a play party to get in free (score!). Now I just need to find the time and muster up the courage to attend my first one.
The one low for the night was, unfortunately, hearing about the “trailer trash” themed party this weekend. It’s really unfortunate that, as a marginalized group, we still do just as much discriminating as everyone else. I really didn’t want to ruin the mood by saying anything, but my friend and I were not happy about that particular decision regarding the theme.
In unrelated news, I found out that to be a Good Vibrations product reviewer, one must be 21. I should look more into that sometime. Anyone had experience?
