TMI Tuesday 2/7/12 – Let’s Go to Bed

1. A friend is coming to have sex. There are 3 twin beds and an air mattress in the room. What do you do?
a. Have sex where ever we land first, who needs a bed?
b. Have sex on a single twin mattress
c. Have sex on an air mattress
d. Or?

2. What is the oddest thing you have in your bedroom that someone would be surprised to find. Why is it there? Right now it’s the twin mattress on the floor. My queen bed needs replacing and I’m waiting for the department to get me a new one, so at the moment I’m sleeping on the twin on the floor because I don’t feel like moving over to my spare room.

3. What are your favorite sheets?
a. Flannel
b. Cotton
c. T-shirt cotton (jersey)
d. Satin

4. Do you sleep with sheets tucked in or out? Why? Out. I like balling myself up in the sheets, but I don’t like the feeling of being stuck when they’re tucked in at the sides and the end.

5. What is your usual bedtime? Why?
a.  8-10 pm
b. 10-12 midnight
c.  12-24
d. Whenever my eyes won’t stay open any longer.

5. Do you sleep with closet door(s) shut or open? Bedroom door shut or open? Any particular reason why? Doesn’t really matter to me.

6. Have you ever broken a bed or other furniture during sex? I have popped out some sofa bed slats, but we put them back in and kept going :P

7. What’s your favorite type of bed for sex? Haven’t tried enough to figure that out.

8. What do you sleep in?
a. Lingerie
b. Underwear
c. Day clothes
d. T-shirt
e. Nothing
f. Pajamas

Sex Education, Anyone?

This term, I’ve begun working with our Health Promotion department to get some sexual health education experience under my belt! I’m doing a lot of administrative work for them (updating the website and such) but I’m also going to be giving presentations on the proper use of condoms, gloves, and dental dams. We’ve also got presentations on contraceptives and STIs, so I’m reading up on all of my info and getting prepared to bring the penis models to a residence hall in a few weeks.

I’m so excited! This is the opportunity I never took during college and I’m thrilled to be working with the peer educators. I’ll also be helping supplement their presentations to try and make them more fun and interactive for the students they’re working with.

As usual, I’m behind on reviews. For those of you who are consistent with your blogging, I would love to know your secrets! Really. Comment and tell me how the hell you manage your lives and your social networks when there is so much to keep up with.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas, everyone! It just happens to be the holiday my family celebrates (minus the religion, if some of you can imagine that).

For others of you, Happy Holidays for all of the possibilities you might be celebrating during this time of year.

I hope ome of you have a good romp in your naughty winter lingerie (or boxers!) and a few orgasms to boot.

TMI Tuesday 12/20

This time of year there are so many holidays and celebrations that overlap, which is why it is called Holiday Season.

1. What will you be celebrating? If it isn’t a commonly known holiday or celebration (i.e., Christmas, winter solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa) briefly tell us about it.

My family typically celebrates Christmas, just…without the Christianity. We used to do lights, a tree, presents, stockings, etc. Things have changed a bit as I’ve grown up but we still celebrate, just often without the lights and such. My parents are getting a bit too old to put in the effort every year.

2. What’s your favorite Christmas or holiday tune?

I’m not a huge fan of holiday music because it gets so overplayed. I think my favourite though is “Carol of the Bells” because I spent years and years waiting to sing it as part of my choir background. I also love “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” because of the beautiful tune. I was lucky enough to sing it in six parts while caroling with my freshman year college choir.

3. If you are giving or receiving gifts this holiday season:
- What’s the gift you most want?
- What do you think is the best gift you are giving?

This year is a bit odd. Since we’re visiting my brother and sister-in-law, a lot of the gift-giving has gone out the window because of traveling along with my parents and me being rather poor. Mum and Dad are getting me a flatscreen TV for my apartment to replace my external monitor, which I’m really excited about because I’ll actually be able to see the damn thing. Dad says it’s because I’m paying for my own car insurance and saving him a ton of money. I’m not giving much this year, but I got my mum some beautiful coloured dice to play Yahtzee, and I think those are fantastic.

4. If you could spend this December holiday season anywhere, where would that be?

My parents’ house (sometimes called Home). We’re going to NYC though, so I’ll have to deal with it.

5. Your family has announced that the holiday celebration & get-together will be at your home. You think to yourself:

a. Yes! Finally…the more the merrier.
b. I don’t have enough room for all of you, but let’s rent a hall and you all get hotel rooms.
c. Over my dead body, I don’t want you freaks in my house.
d. Hmm…I wonder if it’s too late to book a flight to anywhere, leaving on Christmas eve?

6. Have you ever given a fruit cake as a Christmas gift or a gift at all? Do you even like fruit cake?

I don’t do American fruit cake (it often has cinnamon in). Mum makes Dundee Cake though and I love it all year round!

Bonus:  Share with us one of your holiday traditions.

Leaving out mince pies and sherry for Santa.

For those of you who still frequent LiveJournal, today I’d like to put in a plug for one of my new favourite communities: VaginaPagina.

Founded in 2001, VaginaPagina is an online community that offers a supportive, progressive, body- and sex-positive environment in which to discuss issues related to female sexual and reproductive health and wellness. It is a unique, empowerment-based safe space that is GLBTQQIA- and kink-friendly. Our goal is to build knowledge and combat misinformation by sharing personal experiences and reliable information from credible sources. We believe that by becoming active in VP, members are participating in a revolutionary and life-changing project.”

Don’t you just love a community with their very own Mission Statement? Words I like…supportive, progressive, body- and sex-positive, empowerment-based, safe space, GLBTQQIA- and kink- friendly. They even outline what a safe space means to them.

“…accountability, or asking people to be responsible for their words and actions and their (intended or unintended) consequences.”

“…challenge or argue in a constructive, supportive way”

“…being respectful of members’ decisions”

“Recognizing areas of privilege and being aware of how they affect you, your actions, and your perceptions of others and their actions; acknowledging the imbalance that a system based on power and privilege creates, and accepting that those who have less power and privilege may have different, equally valid perceptions and experiences”

As a professional in a field where safe space, empowerment, and realizing your own privilege are important, I thoroughly approve of VP’s open and honest methods of building community within an online setting. Should you ever be looking for advice or interested in hearing the stories of other women and their struggles, I suggest you check out VaginaPagina, join if you have an LJ account, or simply lurk. It’s a wonderful place to learn and grow and be a part of a community with other women of all shapes, sizes, and bodies.
